Who to Contact in the Tennessee Cave Survey

The TCS is governed by an Executive Committee (all NSS members) elected annually at the Fall TCS Meeting by the general membership. The Executive Committee has complete power to appoint additional officers, to raise and approve the use of funds, to manage the business, and to perform all necessary TCS functions. The Executive Committee consists of Two Co-Chairmen (one from East Tennessee and one from West Tennessee). Four additional members to be called Directors, one each to maintain the following files or functions: Map Book, Narrative File, Bibliography, and Meeting. Two Directors-At-Large (one from East Tennessee and one from West Tennessee) and the Secretary-Treasurer. The position of Tennessee Caver Editor and the TCS IT Person are Volunteer positions.

Position Description

Co-Chairman West Tennessee

Maintains files for the West Division. Presides over the meetings. Transacts official correspondence & routine administrative duties of the TCS. Appoint, when vacancies occur, replacement executive officers to serve until the next scheduled election. Appoint committees and committee heads which they deem necessary. Maintain the two cave files or designate a member to do so.

Co-Chairman East Tennessee

Maintains files for the East Division. Preside over the meetings. Transacts official correspondence & routine administrative duties of the TCS. Appoint, when vacancies occur, replacement executive officers to serve until the next scheduled election. Appoint committees and committee heads which they deem necessary. Maintain the two cave files or designate a member to do so.

Secretary / Treasurer

Maintains necessary records & correspondence of the TCS. Collects TCS dues, fees, membership applications & distributes funds. Keeps a record of TCS finances & submits /reports financial statements. Keeps minutes of regular and Executive Committee meetings.

Meeting Director

Plans all TCS Meetings. Obtains Facility for meetings. Solicits & Schedules Meeting Speakers.

Map Book Director

Master Map Book File. Collects new Tennessee Cave Maps. Reworks cave maps to publishable quality. Prepares a map supplement annually. Disseminates map books only through the Secretary-Treasurer for TCS members.

Bibliography Files Director

Keeps master Bibliography. Prepares and publishes the Bibliography as directed by the Executive Committee. Disseminates Bibliography only through the Secretary-Treasurer or as directed by the Executive Committee.

Narrative Files Director

Keeps the master Narrative file. Disseminates narrative files only through the Secretary-Treasurer for TCS members only, or as directed by the Executive Committee.

Director at Large East Tennessee

East Tennessee Division: Bradley, Meigs, Rhea, Cumberland, Morgan, Scott and all counties to the East.

Director at Large West Tennessee

West Tennessee Division: Hamilton, Bledsoe, Van Buren, White, Putnam, Overton, Fentress, Pickett and all counties to the West.

Editor – Tennessee Caver

Maintains and prepares all aspects of publishing the Tennessee Caver, a publication of the Tennessee Cave Survey.

TCS IT

Hosts the web site, updates website with new information when received from individual TCS Executive Committee Members & maintains all aspects of the web site.
